Health Guarantee

Miniature Highland Calf Health Guarantee

At Miniature Highland Calves, we are committed to the health and well-being of our Miniature Highland Calves. We stand behind the health of every calf we sell and offer a comprehensive health guarantee to give you peace of mind. Below are the details of our health guarantee for all calves purchased from us.

1-Year Health Guarantee

All Miniature Highland Calves purchased from us come with a 1-year health guarantee. To ensure the health and well-being of your new calf, we require that you take them to a licensed veterinarian for an examination within 10 days of purchase. If, within this 10-day period, the veterinarian determines that your calf is clinically ill or has died due to an injury or illness likely contracted on or before the date of sale, you have the following options:

  • Return the calf for a full refund
  • Return the calf for a replacement calf of equal value
  • Retain the calf and receive reimbursement for reasonable veterinary fees, not exceeding the purchase price

These options do not apply if the seller has provided a health certificate issued by a veterinarian at the time of sale, and the seller has disclosed any known health issues in writing.

Congenital or Hereditary Defects

If, within 1 year of purchase, a licensed veterinarian diagnoses your calf with a congenital or hereditary defect that adversely affects the animal’s health, or if the calf dies due to such a defect, you are entitled to the same options as outlined above.

To activate this part of the guarantee, you must notify the seller within 2 business days of receiving the veterinarian’s diagnosis. The veterinarian’s contact information (name, address, phone number) must also be provided. Failure to notify us within 2 business days will result in forfeiture of this guarantee.

Vet Examination and Initial Health Check

As part of this health guarantee, we require that you take your calf to a veterinarian for an examination within 10 days of its arrival. This is to ensure that the calf is healthy and free from illness or injury that could have occurred prior to delivery. We highly encourage you to establish a relationship with your vet early on so they are familiar with your calf’s health history.

Responsibility for Post-Delivery Care

While we do everything in our power to ensure the health of our calves before they leave our farm, we are not responsible for diseases or health issues that arise after the calf has left our possession. It is essential that you take the necessary precautions to protect your calf from exposure to disease, especially in environments with high animal traffic or risk of infection. We recommend treating your new calf as you would a newborn animal, ensuring they are kept in a safe and clean environment.

Vaccinations and Deworming

Before leaving our care, all Miniature Highland Calves are checked by a veterinarian and are up-to-date on vaccinations and deworming as recommended by the vet. However, it is important to note that young animals, including calves, can still be susceptible to worms and other parasites after they leave our farm. Deworming is an ongoing process that should be continued under the guidance of your veterinarian.

Your calf will require follow-up vaccinations and possibly additional deworming once in your care. Please ensure that these follow-up treatments are done to maintain your calf’s health and well-being.

Genetic Defects and Replacement Policy

If your Miniature Highland Calf is diagnosed with a life-threatening genetic defect, we will replace the calf with a new one of equal value, subject to the conditions listed below. A veterinary report confirming the genetic defect, signed by a licensed veterinarian, must be provided. This report must include the veterinarian’s contact information, and we reserve the right to consult with the veterinarian for further information.

Vet Bills and Responsibility

Please be aware that you, as the purchaser, are responsible for all veterinary bills related to your calf’s care after purchase. This includes routine care, vaccinations, deworming, and any unforeseen medical treatments. The breeder is not responsible for any veterinary bills incurred after the calf has been sold.

If your calf passes away and you wish to invoke the health guarantee, we may require an autopsy to determine the cause of death. This will be at your expense, and if the autopsy reveals that the cause of death is a result of something that was our responsibility, we will replace the calf as outlined in this guarantee.

Third-Party Sales and Transfer

The health guarantee is void if the calf is sold to a third party or if proper care and precautions are not followed. We strongly recommend that you keep your calf under your care and continue to follow appropriate health protocols.

Health Certificate and Initial Care

Each calf comes with a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian, which will confirm that the calf is healthy and has received its required vaccinations and deworming before leaving our farm. It is important to continue with the care and follow-up veterinary visits to ensure your calf’s health is maintained.
